Authenticity StandardsGeneral Standards: All modern anachronisms are strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: coolers, cots, modern food or packaging, modern jewelry, watches, eyeglasses, cell phones, pagers, modern tobacco products, or clothing which contains modern fibers or have been cut from a modern pattern. For our purposes here, the term "modern" will be defined as anything post-dating 1865. Exceptions to the above are: legal identification, modern currency, car keys, prescription medication and religious jewelry. These items, if carried, will be kept concealed at all times. Uniforms will be appropriate for the event/scenario that we are attending. This includes composition and time frame of the uniform and equipment. We will not allow a member to ruin a scenario for others due to gear that may be out of place. Example: We are attending an early-war scenario, Wilson's Creek for instance, and a member only owns a model 1863 Springfield musket. The member must buy or borrow an appropriate firearm, or not attend the event. Hat brass and other such adornment will be worn only if the guidelines for the given scenario calls for such. Irish harps and other emblems that are not relevant to the scenario will not be displayed. Equipage should be kept to the minimum needed for survival. We almost always portray the soldier on active campaign. In short: If you cannot carry it on your person using a mode of conveyance available to the private soldier, you will not be bringing it to the event. However, there are times when the mess may portray soldiers in garrison or winter quarters. At these times, the accuracy of the scenario requires more comforts and trappings of life. The use of additional items in garrison will be restricted so that their type, amount, and use conforms to the requisite research. In addition all uniform and equipage will be used only with the approval of the mess' authenticity committee. It is strongly advised that one do his research and then consult with the committee prior to purchasing anything.
The following list of equipment is linked, individually, to a more graphic page. On each item's page, you will find a photograph and an in-depth description for the item. Please look at each item in more detail. Note: We have not included Confederate impression guidelines on this site for various reasons. Confederate impressions are not our primary focus and also vary widely from event to event. We will develop guidelines as the need arises. Uniform and Equipment Standards Coming Soon!
